Sunny days and Deloraine!

Gosh we have been enjoying the sun lately, then it surprises us with another winter day just so we don't get too comfortable! I thought that I would share some photos of my lovelies enjoying a local school fair. They absolutely loved the flying fox.. which I loved at 20c a turn! This was the sweetest fair with lots of homemade prizes and not a sweet to be seen .. just beautiful meals, fresh fruit, and homemade ginger beer! I have also posted a couple of photos of our trip to Deloraine for the craft fair. This was a huge day. We left home at 6am, drove for three hours, wandered around the endless beautiful stalls, before heading home a 6pm. Our heads hit the pillow at around 9.30pm. whew! A sleep in was most definitely wanted the next day. My children didnt love it as much as I did.. but they did love the children's section where they tried archery and recouped some energy to peek at more stalls!

A dress for Taylah!

I have finally finished the second dress made for Grandmas great granddaughters. I am really pleased with this one. I used lace from her stash, one of her skirts and some doilies that I had found. I started it weeks ago, but then flooded our house with the washing machine, and needed to empty rooms to have the flooring replaced. I kinda lost my sewing mojo. I am back now, and have started a craft night at my home to keep me motivated as the "to do" projects keep piling up!
Now to start dress number 3!

Mitchells Birthday!

Mitchell had a sleepover for his 9th birthday. I forgot to take pictures simply because it was so hectic! Gosh, there is a huge difference between girls parties and boys parties. Triple the noise the pop off jokes and the mess and you have a boys party! ;)
We managed to play a few games.. it was in the spirit of the Commonwealth Games so we had a number of races (running with a balloon between the legs, running with a straw held between the nose and lips NO HANDS) . We then watched a movie and ate enchiladas for dinner. They settled finally around 11pm and all 6 were up and ready to go around 5am! need.a.nap.

My family surprised me with a ice-cream maker for my birthday.. so guess what is on the menu tonight ; )

Sunday

We have had a busy few weeks here. I managed to flood our house, so we are in the midst of picking new flooring for the kitchen, dining, laundry and bathroom. I am finding it to be quite daunting! So many choices out there! Hopefully by next week I can report that the decision has been made.

Our rabbit has finally had her babies. They are 8 days old today and I finally got around to taking some photos. They are the cutest things, and are just starting to open their eyes. Mum has been so good with them and so we have 4 very healthy babies.
On other news, springtime is definitely here. We enjoyed our first evening picnic last night at Battery Point park. Lucy loved it as she is allowed to take Missy (our puppy) to this park. Missy loved seeing all the other dogs as well. While there I spotted some of the magnolia trees have been decorated with doilies. I love finding random craft in public places! I hope you are enjoying your weekend, and that you find random prettiness in public spaces as well.

new dress

I have just finished the first of four dresses I am making for 4 of Grandmas great granddaughters... using her skirts, doilies and bits and pieces from her sewing box. The first is a little dress made for a two year old. I used a skirt that grandma wore to the little tots mothers wedding. It is just waiting for me to head into town for a thick yellow ribbon to finish it off. I cant wait for my camera to charge and take a photo.
I have decide to just use my phone..please excuse the quality of the photos!

The colour is spot on in the first photo! Its a simple little pattern, pretty easy to understand for a learner like myself! The next one is for a 4 year old, and I am going to try something new and different. Hope you all enjoy your day!

Hello Spring!!

School holidays means late night reading in bed.....
Sun is shining, babies napping, washing drying... days cant get better than this. Its funny how you can continue to learn things about yourself as you get older. I have just noticed how much my mood relies upon the weather! I am loving these sunny days we have been having, and achieving so much more than usual. We have eating beautiful food lately.. fresh produce and recipes from my online favourite blogs. Last night dinner ( and also todays lunch - yum!) was a lovely spanakopita pie . I found the recipe on a blog called pod and three peas ( i am not sure how to link , but will make a attempt).

It is so good! and will make a appearance on our dinner table
again soon!

Camp adventures

This past weekend saw my two treasures head off to their first cub scouts camp. The weather was grey and rainy on the saturday, but thankfully sunshine burst through on the saturday. It was so strange to have a weekend without them that I popped off to bed early instead of sitting up alone. Hubby went alone on the saturday night as well, so I visited some friends for a yummy dinner of steamed dumplings and hummingbird cake.
On sunday I went out to Grandmas house and collected some things that I thought I could use. I took some material (there was a metre of fabric that had all these old fashioned labels of australian food labels - any ideas?!) and a embroidery that she had not quite finished.. I am hoping to turn it into something wonderful (a skirt perhaps!). My aunties and mum had also found Christmas presents that she had put away for the great-grandchildren, and grandchildren, so Mitchell and Lucy has some gifts to open when they arrived home. The weather has been kinder this week and I am feeling smug about having clean, dry clothes and sheets!

Graduations!

What a lovely day we had today! We travelled to Launceston to watch my step daughter graduate from Nursing. The weather was lovely and she looked so happy. While we waited we looked around city park and the children loved the monkeys. They then played in the park . We didn't stay for the whole ceremony as I don't think the children would have coped, so we crept out halfway through (after seeing Beck) and the children had a run around. we didn't have the best day with Lulu today.. she seemed extra sensitive and burst into tears several times.. but was ok again when we arrived home. Gosh it can be exhausting trying to communicate with a moody 7 year old!
We headed home after spending some time with Beck, calling into Campbell Town on the way.. there are some lovely timber carvings that have gone up since we were last there, and a beautiful little providore where we purchased some unusual purple kongo potatoes. I cant wait to cook them and see what they are like. we also picked up some mascapone so I can try a stuffed fig recipe that we found last week - possibly the yummiest thing ever! I will let you know how it turns out, and maybe take some photos.

Rainy days and sunny thoughts

It is a dreary day today in Tassie.. lots of rain and grey skys. It will be good for the garden though and it is always nice to be snuggly and warm inside as the rain trickles down the windows. On days like today I like to cook and nest. Also, remind myself that spring is not far away and we will soon be running on the beach with our boogie boards again!

Sewing and gardens

I am busy at the moment piecing together grandmas doilies and skirts and sheets into some little dresses for 4 of her granddaughters. I am a novice at sewing and have a lot to learn, but I have found each new item I attempt is slightly better than the last. I hope to enlist some help from a talented lady at church.. I will upload photos as go. Pictured is a cape Imade for my sons friend. Gosh, revisiting this photo reminds me of what a great job my husband has done in our yard! What was dirt and sand is now lush lawn and garden beds.

Grandma xx

Well, it has been a long time between posts! But I am really looking forward to getting into a routine of posting regularly. Alot has been happening, but I thought I would use this post to honour my grandma who passed away 2 weeks ago. Gosh, she has left a large hole that I can only fill with her memories. A beautiful, energetic lady who was in the centre of everything. Grandma was always welcoming and always had time for all her family. I love you Grandma, and hope that I made a small difference in your life, as you certainly blessed mine.
